D-10/E-10 The Freshman Experience: Fostering Individual and Community Growth through Intentional Programming and Restorative Communication – Part 1

Among 2020’s boarding school challenges, the most pronounced was the onboarding of our first year students. These students faced unique hurdles, including cognitive, social, and emotional challenges, having missed their final months of 8th grade. In this interactive workshop we will guide attendees through our multi pronged approach to encouraging the development of individual and community wellness in our students, practices ranging from summer programming to end of year celebrations. Drawing on successes and lessons learned, we will focus on our new student programming, including wellness and digital literacy, as well as our restorative justice practices.
